rejection central

You're an artist. You (I mean your ideas) will get rejected. But on Valentine's Day?

When I get one of 'those' letters (the ones that go, "Thank you for your application, blah, blah, but..."), which I got today, I like to gather up all my girlfriends and head to Rejection Central. That seedy, shady place where everyone knows your name, the smoke still lingers in the seats (long after smoking laws have changed) and the beer tastes like....beer.

Just stepping into a place like this, and being greeted by a few familiar and loving faces, takes the edge off. I might even break a smile.

It gets me out of my head, stops me from asking WHY, and reminds me that all is well, and that my time will come. How about you - what's your coping strategy for rejection?

Lingerie's Price tag

Sorry to break it to you, but Valentine's Day is TOMORROW. And given that my next film is about a lingerie shop, I want to know...did you buy anything new this year to ring in love's special day? And I'm curious, how much did you pay?

GAP BODY - THIRTY BUCKSish ($~30)

ZINKE - ONE HUNDRED BUCKSish (~$100)

LA PERLA - THREE HUNDRED BUCKSish  (~$300)

VICTORIA'S SECRET - FIFTEEN MILLION BUCKSish (~$15 Million)

I love having this conversation with my girlfriends. Some feel they would NEVER go to a specialty lingerie shop and pay even $100 (let alone, you know, $15 million) for a good bra. Afterall, who's going to see it? Others call their love of good lingerie an expensive addiction, but see it as self-care, not to mention a gift that keeps on giving.

Whatever it is that tickles your fancy and price point, hope you are feeling lovely and sexy in your Valentine's wares!

Idea boarding

I met with my Director of Photography this week to discuss my next film, about a lingerie shop owner (hopefully making it later this year....financing - fingers crossed). He suggested I start an idea board to help me collect and express everything I am envisioning. So why not this photo of an idea board, to help me get started with my own. (P.S., could see Pinterest becoming my new addiction)

Interested in Women, 100 of them!

Alberta filmmaker, Punam Kumar Gill, is currently researching a documentary film about women, breast changes and image, and bra fittings at Dawn’s Bra-tique in Edmonton.

For her research, she would like to speak to a variety of women, (her goal is 100 women!) including:

  • Small, medium and big-breasted women
  • Adolescent girls who are ready or have recently gotten their first bra
  • Women who are considering or have had a breast augmentation or reduction
  • Pregnant women, nursing mothers
  • Women who have had a miscarriage within the last year
  • Women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer or have had a mastectomy
  • Women who generally prefer not to wear a bra

She will be holding research interviews on Tuesday, October 11th and Wednesday October 12th in EDMONTON, followed by interviews in Calgary later in the month.

Sharing your story will be for research only, and will be handled with the utmost privacy and respect.

The 5Q Interview with Vikram Vij

A new day has come at PunamArts! Here is the very first in a series of video portraits with artists and creatives.  (Electronic Media Release)

Called "The 5Q Interview", the video is more of a journey into chef Vikram Vij's philosophical bearings than a traditional interview about food and wine.  With references to Mahatma Gandhi, cultural identity, sexual orientation and atheism, the portrait captures the chef's essence and life outlook in under ten minutes and in the confines of five questions.

To find out who else is lined up in the series or to find out about having your loved one captured in a video portrait, visit 5Q Interview.
